People change and get use to software plugins like underwear. What petition would have stopped Avid from ending TDM and RTAS support? This is why in most studios hardware still holds the most value. Over and over software companies end support for products or formats. I wouldn't want to be the multiple thousand dollar HD studio that becomes useless without a software plugin bundle.

We have a voice we are paying customers (loyal ones at that) we have not downloaded Waves off torrent sites, we have paid their wages for many years when all they did was TDM and they should not forget us now. If you don't, don't sign it, but don't tell us not to bother. If Dave Marsden has bothered to put the effort in to create this rather than just pointlessly talk about it endlessly on forums (like I have) then if you agree with him, support the cause. It's like saying don't bother to vote then complaining when your least favourite party gets in. I don't think Waves wants to loose them as they are inspirational to future buyers. Some of the people signing are definitely high end "influential" power users. It's starting to look like a serious movement to me. but if those 350 are genuine that adds up to a lot of WUPs/upgrades/future business over a 5 year product cycle of AAX DSP. It's worth a try right? Last time I looked there was only 350odd. I like many others have said this again and again, I don't want to leave Waves as I paid good money for their PIs eventually I will though, but my best solution is they do a U Turn.
If the numbers prove to Waves it's worthwhile what business wouldn't react? If they don't then they hold their position, but you have to try. This is ultimately where I feel you are wrong about petitions, they are a business right? I know quite a few people on that list and they are genuine Waves TDM owners and do buy Waves. Falling out with Avid and just not doing it because of that makes no financial sense and they are a successful business not a bunch of schoolkids, so I think that theory, which has been put forward, makes no sense. That leads us back to simple economics perhaps they reckoned the cost of DSP development meant it would not make money on 200+ PIs. Perhaps they have figured well what the hell lets make our own DSP and make money off that.however, they have said they will make Native AAX AU and VST so that blows that theory out of the water.
We all know that Mercury has sadly been very much the victim of "Crackers" it depresses me totally that often I encounter people who have "Mercury" bundles and seemingly no means to pay for them and there I am after 7 years hard graft and incremental upgrades on Platinum. In many ways the latter would make more sense they have dabbled in that in the past and have soundgrid now. DSP but they sell the dsp as apposed to Avid system. we have fallen out with Avid or perhaps they have seen the UAD model and have decided to develop their own version of that i.e. You would presume Waves made this decision based on financial reasons as apposed to politics e.g.
